Yes. Once you receive your citizenship certificate, you can apply for a Canadian passport immediately. You do not need to wait. In fact, we recommend applying as soon as possible after your ceremony — Canadian passports are the most widely accepted travel documents in the world and open up a lot of options. We prepare the full application package for you and advise on in-person submission at your nearest Service Canada location.

The general rule is: use your Canadian passport to enter and exit Canada, and use your Sri Lankan passport to enter and exit Sri Lanka. Most countries will accept either, but it is good practice to enter each country on that country’s passport where you hold one. We advise on this during the consultation so you understand exactly when to use which passport.

Yes, if you are a Sri Lankan citizen (or a dual citizen), you can apply for a first Sri Lankan passport through the Sri Lanka High Commission in Ottawa. The key requirements are a birth certificate, a National Identity Card, and proof of your Sri Lankan citizenship — or your Dual Citizenship Certificate if you naturalised as Canadian. We handle the full application from document check through to submission.

Yes, if at least one parent holds Sri Lankan citizenship, a child born abroad may be eligible for Sri Lankan citizenship by descent and can apply for a Sri Lankan passport. The process involves registering the child’s Sri Lankan citizenship first (through the dual citizenship or descent process), and then applying for a passport. We handle both steps together. A Canadian passport for the child can also be applied for simultaneously if needed.

Canada offers urgent and express in-person passport services at designated passport offices, including locations in the GTA. Urgent service (travel within 2 to 9 business days) and express service (travel within 10 to 20 business days) are both available, but require a confirmed booking at a passport office and proof of upcoming travel. A guarantor must be a Canadian citizen (not a permanent resident), 18 years of age or older, have known you for at least 2 years, and hold a valid Canadian passport. The guarantor signs the back of one of your photos and a section of the application form. For many newcomers, finding someone who meets all these criteria is the hardest part of the process — we advise on how to approach this and who in your community or network may qualify.

New Sri Lankan passport applications go from the High Commission in Ottawa to the Department of Immigration in Colombo for processing. The typical timeline is 6 to 10 weeks, though it can be longer during high-volume periods. There is no standard urgent service for Sri Lankan passports from Canada at the time of writing — if travel is imminent, contact us and we’ll advise on whether any expedited options are available through the High Commission.

For a Sri Lankan passport applied for through the High Commission in Canada, the fee is currently USD 130 for a new adult passport. For a Canadian passport, the adult fee is CAD 160 (both 5-year and 10-year options are the same price). Children’s Canadian passports are CAD 100. All fees are paid directly to the relevant government authority — not to us. Our service fee is quoted separately and clearly during your free consultation.
