Yes. Knowing your registration number speeds things up, but it’s not essential. We can search the Registrar General’s records using your name, date of birth, parents’ names, and the district where you were born. This search takes a few extra days but we handle it for you.

Standard processing at the Registrar General’s Department typically takes 4 to 10 weeks from submission. Urgent processing (where available) can reduce this to 2 to 4 weeks. Older records or cases with missing details may take a bit longer. We’ll give you a realistic estimate after reviewing your specific situation.

Most Canadian institutions — including IRCC, schools, banks, and courts — require a certified English translation alongside the original Sinhala or Tamil document. We arrange certified translations that meet Canadian requirements, so you don’t need to find a separate translator.

An apostille is an official stamp that certifies a document’s authenticity for use in another country. You typically need an apostille if you’re submitting a Sri Lankan birth certificate in a formal legal or government process outside Sri Lanka — for example, for certain immigration applications or overseas property matters. This is a very common issue for Sri Lankans. Minor spelling differences between a birth certificate and a passport can cause delays or rejections in immigration applications. Yes, absolutely. We handle birth certificate requests for children too. You’ll need to provide the child’s birth registration details and proof of your relationship to the child. The process is the same as for adults — we handle everything from Canada on your behalf.

Late registrations do exist in the Sri Lankan system, but they can sometimes require additional verification steps. In some cases, a court order was obtained at the time of late registration and that record may need to be located separately. We’ll check the record status first and tell you honestly what’s involved before you spend money on fees.

The Registrar General’s Department charges LKR 200 to LKR 1,000 per certified copy depending on the type and urgency. Additional fees apply for apostille processing through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These are government fees paid directly to Sri Lankan authorities — they are separate from our service fee, which we quote clearly upfront during your consultation.
